Chi-town...AKA Munster-town USA.

I don't know about y'all but my mom has a way of sugar coating things... like a recent trip we took to Chicago for my step-brother's wedding.  I haven't been to Chicago since I was, well too young to remember, so imagine my excitement.  Big city, Big buildings, lots of shopping... and deep dish PIZZA!  Well, the excitement was short lived... little did I know we would actually end up in Munster Indiana.

For those of you who don't know, Munster is about 30 miles SE of Chicago, about an hour with traffic, which we were in, due to Lalapalooza, which we missed.  Highlights of Munster include, a trip to the local Starbucks, which happens to be located inside the local Target... or drive a couple blocks down main street and enjoy a romantic date night at the local Red Lobster... for some reason I feel the need to put local in front of everything, like the local Hampton Inn that we stayed at.  The accommodations were good, in fact, so good that I think the entire wedding party, guests and all booked reservations there.  Now that I think about it, the good old Hampton Inn, just may have been the only place in town, hmmm.

So, you must be thinking, what does a person, who thinks they are going to Chicago, do for an entire weekend in Munster, Indiana... well let me tell you.  The first night, stranded at the Hampton Inn, without a car, (it was taken to the rehearsal dinner, that we were not invited to.) we decided to cross the parking lot to a local restaurant, The Charleyhorse.  From the outside, it looked like a Chili's but behind the tinted windows was a smokey restaurant/sports bar, complete with slutty waitresses in short skirts and knee highs.  So, me and my husband, who is such a good sport, decided it would be best to get completely and utterly trashed... and the Charleyhorse had a drink menu to do so.  He ordered the Friday Bomber, I went with the Tropical Ecstasy.  Not our brightest moment.  30 minutes later, I was in the bathroom, pardon the grossness, but puking my guts out.  Needless to say, we packed up my dinner and retired to the Hampton Inn, which happened to have a mini fridge to keep my leftovers chilled.

The next day, we slept in, late.  Then, per my husbands numerous requests we ventured down main street to the local White Castle.  Having never seen Harold & Kumar's movie about White Castle, I didn't see the importance of this trip.  After having made it, I still don't see the importance.  Located at the local gas station, White Castle was quite the disappointment.  The "burgers" or more appropriately "sliders" had to be made with Spam.  There is no way that meat could be classified as grade A-nything.  The thought of it makes me a little bit nauseous...

Later that day, we crossed over to Illinois, Lansing, not Chicago, for the beautiful wedding ceremony of Sean & Trisha, here's a pic of the happy couple:

After the ceremony, we met back at the Hampton Inn to wait for the reception to begin.  My sugar-coating mother, who missed out on the White Castle adventure was starving so I offered up my leftovers from The Charleyhorse... turns out it might not have been the Tropical Ecstasy that left me hurling the night before, we found out later that evening that she too would succumb to the porcelain God.  Thank you Charleyhorse for leaving such a memorable impression on me and my mom's poor tummies.  Here's a pic of me & Justin at the reception, before the Charleyhorse struck:

All said and done, we did have a great weekend with tons of memories to take home.  We did get the chance to tour Chicago and Michigan Avenue.  We even had a lovely lunch at the Flagship Ralph Lauren restaurant, ha ha, Ralph.  This was pre-Munster, thank goodness... Here's a couple shots from our Chi-Town adventure:

DELTA: Dumb Employee Loses The Argument

Someone should have told Terri not to mess with me...check out my response back and keep in mind that I had to edit my true feelings to keep a certain level of integrity.

Terri- I understand that Air France will be reimbursing the expenses due to the lost luggage, it was not my intent to have Delta reimburse us for those expenses.  I just thought Delta should be aware that the whole entire reason we got into this mess was because our flight from DFW to JFK was delayed due to the airlines inability to properly fill up a fuel tank.  You may want to pass it on to a supervisor that it's not in the airlines best interest to have the pilot announce over the intercom that the plane will have to reroute to another city because in order to save money they didn't top off the fuel tank.

And not only did we suffer expenses due to the mishap on our flight to Europe, but then on our way home Delta charged us almost $200 to send the additional bags that we bought for the additional clothes we had to buy home.  What ever happened to 2 checked bags per person internationally?  Y'all failed in so many ways and then sent us 5,000 airline miles as an apology, what an insult.  Delta has to be the worst airlines in the world for SO many reasons, what comes to mind first is crappy customer service and inability to own up to irregularities.  I wouldn't fly y'alls airlines if it were the last airlines on the planet, not even if someone paid me to.  And, I'll do my best to make sure that everyone I know and all of their friends share in the incredibly poor experience we incurred.

Thank you,
Meg S.

DELTA: Doesn't Even Listen To Advice

Check out the pathetic response we got from Delta... I don't think Ms. J. even read my email!

Dear Mrs. Megan  S.,

RE: NCEAF*****

Thank you for your e-mail regarding reimbursement for expenses incurred while your baggage was delayed. The amount of out of pocket expenses are different for each airline.

The airlines have an agreement whereby the passengers final air carrier investigates irregularities related to loss, damage or delay of baggage on behalf of all carriers involved and assumes liability for same.

Therefore, we suggest you contact Air France about their guidelines for reimbursements. We recommend you keep all receipts for any purchases made, but we cannot guarantee reimbursement.

Sincerely,

Terri J.

DELTA: Departing Even Later Than Anticipated...

Here is the latest complaint letter in my expanding arsenal.  Unfortunately this happened during me & my hubby's honeymoon... but we put on our big girl panties and had a blast, even thought the following might make ya think otherwise!  It is purely hateful towards the airlines, the cruise was amazing and we'd do it again in a heartbeat :)

To Whom It May Concern:

Air France lost my husbands and my luggage on May 21st on our way to Nice via flight AF 7714 for our honeymoon, aboard a seven-day cruise on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner.  We did not receive our bags until May 26th, six days later, in Palma de Mallorca at 7:00 pm in the evening.  Our honeymoon was completely ruined and we incurred expenses beyond what we had ever anticipated.  The experience of trying to find our bags and have them delivered to our ship was an absolute nightmare, which I will now explain in detail.

We began planning our honeymoon in August of 2010 with the help of Fuller Travel Agency in San Antonio, TX.  With the help of Annie Briehan, a representative with Fuller, we booked the Regent Seven Seas Mariner Cruise, Passport to Iberia on February 22, 2011.  The package chosen, all-inclusive, meant Regent booked all of our airfare out of Dallas.  We made arrangements through Annie from San Antonio to Dallas accordingly.  Below is the itinerary:

On our flight from Dallas to New York, flight DL 3087, the pilot announced that because of inflated fuel prices, the crew neglected to “top off” the tank.  Consequently, we had to land in Richmond, Virginia to refuel.  Therefore, we missed our connecting flight, DL 3087, to Nice at 17:55.  At JFK, a young lady helped re-route our flights so that we could make it to Nice in time to reach our cruise ship in Monaco that was leaving on the 21st at 16:00 hours.  Below is the new itinerary we were given:

The flight to Paris was very nice, the staff was helpful and friendly and the accommodations were great.  We arrived in Paris on time and made it to our connecting flight to Nice.

You can only imagine the HUGE disappointment awaiting us in Nice when we heard our names being called over the loud speaker to meet with a staff member in order to file a claim because our luggage had in fact, not arrived.  The claims filing process was a complete mess; the staff was uncompassionate and of very little help.  They provided us with a claims letter and told us that we would be reimbursed 150 Euro’s each per day that our luggage was missing.  I gave the young lady our cruise itinerary thinking this would help to expedite the delivery of our bags to the ship.

For the next 6 days, the Seven Seas Mariner’s staff, my husband, and I tried to contact Air France to find out where our luggage was and when it would arrive.  The story changed from one day to the next.  We heard the bags went to Rome when we were in Portofino, to Genoa when we were in St. Tropez.  At one point, the airlines didn’t even know where our bags were.  On numerous occasions, we were hung up on, and no one ever apologized for the inconvenience.  It was frustrating and disheartening.  Each day we got our hopes up and were disappointed until late in the evening on the 26th, in Palma de Mallorca when we finally received our bags.  This however, was too late considering we only had one day left on the ship in Barcelona.

Besides all of the inconveniences with the airlines, we also feel it is necessary to discuss the additional expenses incurred due to not having any luggage on a luxury cruise in the Mediterranean for 6 days.  My husband and I had to purchase clothes, toiletries and accessories in order to survive.  Below is a summary of our purchases:
